Abstract

Let's see... Let's talk: Towards an Intelligent VR Platform for Training Professionals in DisabilitiesPablo

Mixed reality environments today expand and facilitate the possibilities of learning and rehabilitation in children, adolescents, young people, and adults with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Likewise, people with other developmental disabilities in addition to ASD (e.g., neuromotor disorders) or also in intellectual disabilities (e.g., Down Syndrome, Angelman, Prader-Willis, Fragile X, etc.); also, in psychosocial disabilities (depressive disorders, bipolar, phobias, disorders sequelae to drug dependence, dementia, Alzheimer's, etc.) benefit from these environments. People with ASD are characterized by difficulties of social reciprocity in verbal and non-verbal communication, absence of, or at least a significant decrease in, symbolic capacity and imaginative behavior, and repetitive patterns of activity and interests. Exposure to new or uncontrolled stimuli makes real environments stressful and destructuring, leading to disruptive behaviors.
Let's see... let's talk aims to be an intelligent Mixed Reality software tool to provide support for training people who assist persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other disabilities: their families, organizations, professionals, and caregivers in facilitating social inclusion processes.
